Cruise Ship Rooms Cruise Staterooms Accommodations

As someone who’s sailed on Carnival a few times, I was blown away by how modern Carnival Celebration was. Carnival Celebration, which just debuted in November 2022, is the cruise line’s newest ship. We booked one of Carnival Celebrations inaugural sailings from North America, sailing from Miami to the Caribbean over the course of a 7-night itinerary. Note that Carnival's website states certain Forward-View Extended Balcony cabins are obstructed, too, as they steel railing. For example, rooms 9201, 9202, 10202, 12205, 14204, and all have partial views when sitting down.

FAMILY HARBOR OCEAN VIEW SUITE

Furnishings in the sitting area include a leather sofa bed and a coffee table, with no wall separating it from the sleeping area. There's also a large window and heavy wooden balcony doors (in lieu of sliding-glass doors). As noted above, Carnival ships also have fewer suites than you'll find on the ships of some of its rival lines. By contrast, the line's newer ships have a higher percentage of inside cabins than you'll find on the newer ships of some rival lines.

It never hurts to remind the staff how excited you are to be celebrating on the ship and ask if there is any chance for an upgrade. Put on a big smile, be super friendly and ask if there is any chance a better cabin is available. If they don't offer you an upgrade for free, you might suggest you are willing to pay a small fee. The advice from successful bidders is to go up from the minimum, but how much is a personal choice. Some people snag better accommodations for less than $20, some for $100 or more.

About 44% of the 2,004 cabins on Carnival's Carnival Panorama (launched in 2019) are balcony cabins, for instance. Compare that to the 65% of cabins on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas (launched in 2018) that are balcony cabins. The girls loved having bunk beds and I loved that our wonderful stateroom steward, Kate, took fantastic care of us each day. A stateroom featuring the most indoor space, a balcony and some of the best perks on the ship. Budget travelers will find the inside cabins very functional; we felt that Carnival utilized the space as best as the cruise line could.

If you have health or mobility challenges, Carnival proudly welcomes you on board. You’ll find plenty of accessible staterooms from which to choose, whether you are traveling with a wheelchair, scooter or another device. Consider staying in the midship section where you’ll find extra elevators. PS...this is not for me but another family in our group that is traveling with us and I have already cautioned her about size/comfort/space etc.... Bathrooms include a medicine cabinet, towel racks and a decent amount of space on the sink for storing items.

If you are cruising somewhere especially scenic, such as Alaska, then I would definitely consider booking a balcony. There are many different balconies to choose from when you take a Carnival cruise. For example, choosing a balcony stateroom on Carnival’s newest Excel Class ships will be different than sailing in a balcony cabin on an older, smaller ship.

What started as a yearly vacation with family quickly turned into a passion for travel, cruising and adventure. She even studied abroad on Semester at Sea, sailing the world on a ship while taking courses for college and visiting 4 continents. If you are traveling with kids especially, we would recommend choosing the Family Harbor balconies. These are conveniently located and include some very nice amenities for those with younger children, including complimentary babysitting and access to the Family Harbor lounge. There are three kinds of Premium Balconies available on Carnival’s cruise ships. If you’re looking to book a Carnival cruise in the near future, you might be questioning which type of cabin is the best choice for you.

Annie is a true sea-lover with a passion for everything cruise-related. She kicked off her career working for Carnival, soaking up the sun and sea vibes. Then, she hopped aboard Royal Caribbean, where she added even more waves and memories to her journey. The exact price can vary based on several factors, including the cruise’s itinerary and the time of year. Imagine waking up to the gentle sound of waves and the first rays of the sun, all from the comfort of your private haven. This blog helps over a million people to plan their cruises each month.

Having a comfortable place to sleep and shower is most important, and every cabin onboard a cruise ship will provide that. Our shower's door was made of a plastic-like material and maneuvered inward to save space; however, the extended balcony stateroom had a glass door and opened outward. Either way, the shower was thoughtfully designed and it did not go unnoticed. Along with the mirror, the vanities in both the inside stateroom and extended balcony cabin also featured drawers under the counter and exposed shelving for additional storage.

Cruise line sales are the easiest way to score cheap or free upgraded accommodations. Various mass-market brands will run periodic promotions, especially during the fall and winter "wave season" sale periods. You might also see discounted upgrades offered on cruises during shoulder seasons, such as immediately after children return to school in the fall. Still, some of that has begun to change with the debut of Carnival's new Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. Carnival went big with the suites on the groundbreaking, 5,282-passenger vessels — the biggest Carnival ships ever. Your room will have four walls and no windows offering a glimpse of the outside world.

We expected to see more differences between the inside cabin's bathroom and the extended balcony stateroom, but for the most part, they were the same. Both bathrooms featured shelving above and below the bathroom counter. Our inside cabin on Carnival Celebration, nestled on Deck 4, was considered a standard inside stateroom with 160 square feet of space. Had we booked a premium inside cabin, the stateroom would have had an additional 40 square feet, allowing room for a small couch.

If you’re sailing to scenic destinations like Alaska, having a balcony stateroom can really enhance your cruising experience. If you are looking to have more space and a private outdoor verandah to watch the ocean views and sunsets, then splurging on a balcony is probably a great choice. You’ll have more room in a balcony stateroom, and you can also enjoy fresh air whenever you choose. Moreover, balcony cabins are considered roomier than inside and outside staterooms. You can also book adjoining-- or connecting-- balcony rooms if you want to benefit from two bathrooms and additional living space. The typical Carnival balcony cabin has a contemporary look, with clean lines and relatively minimalist furniture.

On the other hand, cruising during peak season will often see the most expensive balconies. An obstructed view balcony room might have a lifeboat or some other ship equipment blocking a portion of the view. If having a Balcony is an absolute must, then think about how much space you’ll want. A Suite could be a better choice, and you’ll get some extra perks too.

One exception is the new Carnival Venezia, which has a darker (faux) wood finish to furniture in cabins that ties into the ship's Italy theme. Unlike some of its biggest competitors, Carnival isn't known for a huge range of cabin categories on its vessels. Overall, most Carnival Cruise Lines staterooms have the same interior look. Here’s a look at a Balcony stateroom on the Carnival Breeze that is identical to our stateroom on the Carnival Freedom.

For just the two of us, our inside stateroom was more than enough for us to sleep comfortably each evening; however, having 4 people in the standard inside cabin would have been a very tight squeeze. I'd argue that even a family with children would find the space a little cramped. While our bunk beds went unused, my coworker was traveling with his two children, aged 12 and 8; therefore, the extra beds were necessary to comfortably sleep everyone in his family during the cruise. Our inside cabin did not have anywhere to sit in the stateroom other than on the beds or the vanity ottoman. The bunk beds also cut into the sitting space above the twin beds, which did not leave much headspace room for sitting.

Be careful though, not all Suites have balconies, some have windows or a lanai patio area, so be sure to study the Carnival website to know exactly what you’re getting. And that is definitely the case for a lot of people who choose to sail with Carnival. Carnival ships are some of the most feature-packed on the oceans and there are loads of things to see and do. You might pay the extra for a Balcony but never really get the chance to make the most of it. A Balcony cabin is not for everyone no matter which cruise line you’re sailing with.
